About

Our History

The history of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., founded in Texas in 1964, and the story of the Dallas Chapter.

A national legacy that began in Texas

Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. was founded in 1964 in Texas by eight African American women who believed that organized service could change lives. What they started has grown into a national organization of more than 125 chapters and more than 7,500 members, with roughly 3,500 teens in its youth affiliate, Top Teens of America.

The Dallas Chapter

The Dallas Chapter is one of the oldest and most historically significant chapters of Top Ladies of Distinction.

The chapter was chartered on June 5, 1965, as Charter Number 1003. It was organized by Founder Lady Georgia Bell Presswood Nelson, Founder Lady Ozell M. Dean, and Lady Versia Lacy, and chartered under National President Founder Lady Franchell Boswell and Area Director Lady Lucellestine Wilson.

Carrying it forward

Every generation of Ladies inherits this work and hands it on. Through Top Teens of America, the chapter invests in the young people who will lead the next chapter of service in Dallas.
